LearningTrain with AVID (Proven Achievement Lifelong Advantage) personnel to integrate its recommended strategies and methodologies with the existing tutor training modules.Trena Roueche, Weber State's AVID coordinator plans on holding training sessions during Spring Semester. All tutoring supervisors will attend the sessions and during Summer semester plan on ways of revamping the tutor training modules to include the recommended practices. There will be no student learning outcomes this year, but when the changes are made next year, both tutors and tutees will develop critical thinking and literacy skills to "improve their behaviors for academic success". LearningTo train SI leaders to incorporate learning strategies into their SI sessions in a consistent manner so that the SI participants will understand that these strategies contribute to their life long learning.At every training session and feedback session, emphasize the importance of incorporating learning strategies into SI sessions.SI participants will gain an understanding of learning strategies such as note taking methods, time management skills, test taking strategies, etc.Participant Survey of the SI Program that is administered at the end of each semester. Supervisor observations.73% of the participants who took the survey felt their learning strategies improved.Students need to understand that when the SI leaders talk about exam techniques and such, these are called learning strategies.
DiversityTo expose the SI leaders to the issues most commonly faced by students of different populations so that they can address them in their sessions.Invite the coordinator of the LGBT Resource Center or the Director of the Women's Center to address issues of diversity and how SI leaders need to address issue of diversity among their participants.SI leaders will be exposed to diversity issues that could crop up in their sessions and learn how to deal with them.Supervisor observations of sessions.
