DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS GOALS
2005-2006


Student Affairs provides comprehensive programs and services which provide the foundation for a holistic learner-centered educational experience that fosters individual growth, campus community and off-campus partnerships.


I. Improve student retention and graduation rates.
  1. Measure: Identify educational barriers of specific populations and develop interventions to reduce them.
  2. Measure: Pursue NADE certification for all tutoring services and Supplemental Instruction to increase retention and graduation for under prepared students.
  3. Measure: Provide pre semester experiences which will enable first year students to develop a personal connection with the University.
  4. Measure: Develop methods of measuring the impact of programs and services on graduation rates.
II. Create an outstanding, learner-centered experience in a multi-campus environment.
  1. Measure: Correlate department goals and objectives with the "Ideal Baccalaureate WSU Graduate" profile.
  2. Measure: Create a living-learning environment in housing to assist first year student success. The program will include a math component.
  3. Measure: Develop and implement a plan for expanding divisional educational opportunities for student employees.
  4. Measure: Develop and implement a tool that identifies the similarities and differences between WSU students and national undergraduates.
III. Provide student support and student engagement opportunities.
  1. Measure: Assess the effectiveness and educational impact of merging Student Government and Student Activities, i.e. has it increased student involvement as measured by program participation, event attendance, number of students seeking office, etc.
  2. Measure: Increase by 100% staff and student participation in undergraduate research.
  3. Measure: Increase the number of student volunteers by 10%

  4. Measure: Establish a baseline of partnerships between the University and community.
IV. Improve staff job satisfaction, professional development and retention.
  1. Measure: Implement staff recognition award program.
  2. Measure: Provide more in-service opportunities for classified and professional staff.
  3. Measure: Measure staff satisfaction on a regular basis.
V. Improve infrastructure to support students, faculty, staff and community.
  1. Measure: Complete Union Building plan and business plan and begin construction.
  2. Measure: Complete Low Elements Ropes Course.
  3. Measure: Develop a plan for future use of residence hall site.
  4. Measure: Complete sprinkler system for Promontory Tower.
  5. Measure: Provide input for academic support space in the Humanities building.
  6. F. Measure: Implement proposed process for assessing Student Affairs charges and fees.
VI. Enhance the campus environment through inclusion and diversity.
  1. Measure: Support existing early intervention programs and seek funding for new and expanded programs. Examples include: Student to Student program, Upward Bound, and Veterans Upward Bound. A Talent Search Grant proposal will be submitted.
  2. Measure: Develop pathways for a diversified range of qualified students to seek student leadership positions.
  3. Measure: Access the potential of a pilot program to recruit diverse student Affairs staff.
  4. Measure: Develop and implement a funding process to support new and innovative program proposals that enhance the campus environment through inclusion and diversity.
