MISSION STATEMENT

The Department of Research Support Services in Student Affairs supports the personnel of Student Affairs by conducting research studies that assess departmental effectiveness and provide long-term student tracking. Data regarding student interactions, student academic achievement, and student retention is collected then generated into relevant reports that assist Directors, Deans, and the Student Affairs Vice President in management decisions. All individuals who view the data are governed by FERPA regulations.


INPUT

The Student Affairs Staff from 19 of the overall departments submit monthly data to the Research Support Services for data compilation and dissemination. These departments consist of:

ENVIRONMENT

The Research Support Services department provides the following services to participating Student Affairs departments:

  1. Coordinate monthly departmental hand-entered data with Wildcard electronic data.
  2. Validate data consistency and content to insure integrety.
  3. Issue monthly Departmental Activity reports to participating Directors.
  4. Issue monthly Divisional Activity reports to participating Deans.
  5. Create departmental unduplicated headcount databases.
  6. Maintain archive departmental databases for departmental retention.
  7. Maintain archive departmental databases for University retention.
  8. Issue fiscal year data reports to participating Directors and Deans.
  9. Issue fiscal year comparative reports to the Dean of Resource Management.
  10. Maintain a secured data system to prevent data loss and insure integrity.
  11. Interact with participating Student Affairs personnel thus providing effective communication as departmental changes and/or needs occur.
  12. Maintain download files from the STAARS system to match with Student Affairs data.
  13. Assist in staff training across Student Affairs when requested by the department.

 

OUTCOME

The reports issued through the Research Support Services department assist in measurement of the following Outcomes Assessment Competencies as defined in the Weber State Outcome Assessments Plan based on the measurement entitled "Colleague Review."

This data collection system is designed to be used as a supplement to other measurement techniques in order to produce a complete and rounded picture of departmental assistance to student learning. The data system is based on quantitative data collection.

 

ASSESSMENT

Assessment of the effectiveness of Research Support Services will be conducted through a department satisfaction survey designed to identify strengths and weaknesses of the program.
